Xiamen City - The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen joined the 22nd Pinoy FUNsaya Sports Barkadahan 2021 organized by the Filipino Community in Xiamen (FAX) held at the Datang Center Olympic Sports Park, Siming District, Xiamen City on 09 May 2021. After consulting with relevant local authorities, considering the zero number of COVID-19 cases local transmissions in Xiamen, as well as the clamor of the Filipino community for a gathering, FAX decided to hold its first Filcom event after the pandemic.
 
Vice Consul Elaine Mae V. Laruan-Hernandez, Acting Head of Post, gave her short remarks at the opening ceremony before the participants, organizers and officiating team. In her remarks, she expressed appreciation for the officers and members of FAX for organizing the event, and underscored the importance of sports as a means of forging friendship, unity and camaraderie and promoting physical, emotional and mental well-being, especially during this time of pandemic. She also recognized and greeted the mothers as the event coincided with Mother’s Day.
 
To warm up and energize the participants, a Zumba dance beat was performed at the center of the football field.
 
The green and orange teams competed in different individual and team sports for both men and women which included basketball, volleyball, football, chess, darts, table tennis, badminton and other fun games like tug of war and obstacle race. The green team edged the orange team and was declared overall champion.
The one-day event was participated by the Consulate General’s personnel and their families along with the more than 100 participants coming from Xiamen, Jinjiang and Quanzhou cities.
