The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen successfully launched the 2nd Philippine Christmas Carol Festival in cooperation with SM Xiamen and the Manila Xiamen International School (MXIS) held at SM Xiamen Lifestyle Center, Xiamen City on 07 December 2018.
The Festival is the Consulate General’s initiative under its cultural diplomacy thrusts and Gender and Development (GAD) programs with special tribute to Filipino teachers of MXIS in observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women or VAW from November 25 to December 12.
The MXIS Choir of teachers/faculty members performed a repertoire of popular Filipino and foreign Christmas songs to the delight of over 300 guests, members of the Filipino community in Xiamen, Consulate General’s officers and staff and shoppers in attendance. The Festival helped promote Philippine culture through its Christmas traditions to the general public in Xiamen.
Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores expressed appreciation to SM Xiamen and its Management Team for hosting the Festival and MXIS Choir for their valuable support and contribution to the successful staging of the Festival.
Shortly after the performances, the Consulate General conducted an orientation to the MXIS teachers and faculty members on the 18-day campaign to end Violence Against Women (VAW) held at the Hongkong Legendary Restaurant, SM Xiamen. The Consulate General distributed campaign/reading materials to boost awareness, promote, protect and fulfill the rights of women and girls as well as to stop the violence.
The Consulate General presented certificates of appreciation and token/gifts to Filipino teachers of MXIS in recognition of their valuable contribution to education and for being a great source of pride and inspiration to the Filipino community in Xiamen and environs. The Consulate General hosted a dinner afterwards.
