

Philippine Consul General to Xiamen Julius Caesar A. Flores delivered remarks as the Guest Speaker in two events of the Manila Xiamen International School’s (MXIS) annual celebration of the United Nations Day themed “A Fusion of Cultures” and the Model United Nations Conference in Xiamen (MUNOX) held at the MXIS Gymnasium on 31 October and at the Hyatt Regency Wuyuan Hotel on 03 November 2017 respectively.
At the “A Fusion of Cultures” event, Consul General Flores took the opportunity to share information with the MXIS officials, faculty, students and guests regarding the valuable contributions of the UN for the last 72 years, including the latest accomplishments of Millennium Development Goals. In support of UN’s mandate to promote regional integration and on the occasion of Philippine Chairmanship in 2017, Consul General Flores presented Engr. Roman and Dr. Mildred Go, Chairman and Principal of MXIS respectively, with the ASEAN 50th Founding Anniversary commemorative coin and stamp. Furthermore, the timely and relevant message of His Excellency Antonio Guterres, incumbent UN Secretary General, on this year’s celebration of UN Day was echoed to the audience.
The event was highlighted by various song-and-dance performances of the students dressed in their national costumes representing selected UN member countries.
On 03 November 2017, the MXIS commenced the MUNOX, a valuable platform in molding the students to learn the nature, work and complexities of the UN system. It was participated by students from other international schools in Xiamen namely, Xiamen International School, Xiamen Foreign Language School and Xiamen Shuangshi Middle School of Fujian.
Consul General Flores shared valuable lessons to the participants culled from his work experiences during his posting at the Philippine Missions to the UN in Viena and Nairobi as well at the UN office in the DFA.
