of the launching of the photo exhibit on “The Beauty of Fujian” at Robinsons Galleria – Xiamen on 18 March 2017

 

The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen reports the successful launching of a photo exhibit on “The Beauty of Fujian” on 18 March 2017 at the Ground Floor, Robinsons Galleria, Xiamen City. 

The exhibit showcased the photo collections taken in different locations in Fujian province by “Foto-Grupo” organized by the Consulate General, comprising of Filipino photo hobbyists based in Fujian who shared their passion for photography. “Foto-Grupo” members include Mr. Dan Osillos (President), Mr. Bong Antivola, Mr. Dixx Gatpo and Mr. Cocoy Declaro.

Consul General Julius General Julius Caesar A. Flores underscored that the said exhibit provides a significant showcase to promote Fujian to locals in China as well as to Filipinos and overseas Chinese in the Philippines, (90% of whom trace their ancestral roots in Fujian province) which would redound to enhancing friendship, understanding and cooperation between the Philippines and Fujian on one hand, and on the other between the Philippines and China.

Special guests who attended the event were Mr. Mongkol Sinsomboon, Deputy Consul General, Royal Thai Consulate General; Mr. Yeo Ser Hern, Kenneth, Vice Consul (Visa), Singapore Consulate General; Mr. Cheng Ming, Deputy Director, Consular Division, Xiamen FOCAO and Professor Shi Xueqin, Vice Dean, School of International Relations, Research School of Southeast Asian Studies, Xiamen University. Members of the Filipino community, TV and print media representatives and local contacts and foreign friends were also present. An estimated 300 guests and shoppers witnessed the launching ceremony.

Consul General Flores conveyed Consulate General’s appreciation to “Foto-Grupo” for their world-class skills in photography and to Consulate General’s partners for the event including Robinsons Galleria – Xiamen, Mr. George Go, Chairman, Gotesco Group of Companies and Tawid Heritage Center Manila (Dr. Evelyn F. Cabanban and Mr. Amado L. Bengua).

The event was covered by Southeast Net and China Radio International (CRI) as well as other Fujian-based media representatives such as Zhang Xiong Art TV, Lufeng Bao Newspaper, Strait News Xiamen Center, Fujian Overseas Chinese Newspaper (Xiamen Station) and Xiamen Jimei TV.

The photo exhibit is open for public viewing during mall hours and will run from 18-25 March 2017. The exhibit will do a Fujian tour during the rest of the year. It will also be showcased in Manila as part of the Philippine-Fujian Week in May 2017. END
