Mr. Xinyan Liu, Secretary, China Enterprises Investment Association (CEIA), who made a business trip to Manila on 22 February 2017, visited on 02 March 2017 the Consulate General to express appreciation for the Consulate General’s assistance following a fruitful and successful visit in Manila to explore possible economic cooperation with Philippine government authorities. He was accompanied by Mr. Zhang Ming, an official from the China Export and Credit Insurance Corporation (CECIC)

He met with high-level Philippine government officials including Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Alfonso Cusi, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Undersecretary/BOI Vice Chairman and Managing Head, Dr. Ceferino S. Rodolfo, National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Undersecretary Rolando G. Tungpalan, Department of Finance (DoF) Director Richard Uy, and Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) President and CEO Adm. Reuben S. Lista PCG (Ret), and other officials of the said agencies.

A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) will be signed in Manila between BOI and CEIA to be witnessed by CECIC officials to jumpstart the economic partnership between the Philippines and China.

CEIA intends to invest in the energy, agriculture, and waste management sectors. DoF and BOI also expressed keen interest to pursue projects with CEIA in the banking and insurance sectors.

Mr. Liu’s recent visit to Manila also made him interested in investment opportunities in the Philippine transportation sector, noting that in his next visit in March 2017, he intends to call on Philippine transport authorities to offer CEIA’s investment support in a monorail system citing the effective and cost-efficient monorail system of Chongqing City, Sichuan Province END
