
Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores, together with Mr. John Paul Iñigo, Commercial Vice Consul, PTIC-Guangzhou, and Mr. Jose Rey. B. Madrilejos, the Consulate General’s Information and Economic Officer, attended the 2017 Trade Promotion Organizations (TPOs) First Quarter Round Table and Media Networking held on 23 February 2017 at the C&D Hotel, Xiamen City.
The event was co-organized by China Center for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Xiamen and Xiamen Area of China (Fujian) Pilot Free Trade Zone Administration.
Consul General Flores made a presentation including citing the historical background of Philippine-Fujian relations, including the establishment of the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen as well as the Fujianese migration to the Philippines. He also cited the Consulate General’s 2017 economic diplomacy-related activities and requested CCPIT-Xiamen’s and other stakeholders’ participation and support in the said events specially those to promote Philippine trade and investments under CCPIT-Xiamen’s country-themed promotional activity “Go Philippines”
Consul General Flores was interviewed by Xiamen TV outfits (Xiamen TV, Xiamen Star, etc.) and announced Post’s economic diplomacy events for 2017 to local audiences.
Mr. Iñigo, in his remarks, mentioned about the Philippine government’s desire to attract more investors to the Philippines and extended the invitation for the body to visit the Philippines.
In his welcome remarks, Mr. Yan Zhiping, CCPIT-Xiamen Acting Chairman, cited Xiamen City’s 2016 accomplishments as well as its programs for 2017. His remarks, however, focused on the city’s preparations for the 2017 BRICS summit to be held in Xiamen in September this year. He also mentioned the customs and trade policies and fiscal reforms adopted by the Xiamen Area (Fujian) Free Trade Zone that encouraged more companies to use Xiamen FTZ for their import and export transactions. Xiamen FTZ is currently the largest among the three FTZs in Fujian Province.
