

Consul General Julius Caesar A. Flores conducted a two-day lecture on the work and operations of the Consulate General in Xiamen for Manila’s Xavier School Grade 8 students on 24 and 25 November 2015 at the Consulate General’s Bulwagang Bagumbayan (National Hereos Hall). A total of 140 students and faculty members attended the lecture.
The Xavier School students were in Xiamen for the “Xavier China Experience: Xiamen Program” a 42-day study tour of Fujian province through appreciation of Fujian history and culture, customs and traditions.
The Xavier students were led by their High School Principal, Ms. Aimee Apolinario and Mr. Exxon Ryan Yu, Assistant Principal and Team Leader, and 12 Xavier School faculty members.
Consul General Flores highlighted the many facets of the work of the Consulate General covering political, economic and public diplomacy functions. He also underscored the deep historical and cultural link between the Philippines and Fujian Province stating that majority of the overseas Chinese in the Philippines come from Fujian province, including the families of most of the students present.
Consul General Flores encouraged the young students to enhance their knowledge of the Chinese language and culture which are valuable in appreciating their kinship and ties to Fujian province as well as provide a strong foundation for eventual studies specializing on China.
Consul General Flores commended Xavier school in undertaking this activity which is an excellent vehicle for people-to-people contacts that could enhance understanding and friendship between the Philippines and China. END
